Reason 143: He doesn’t know what he was swallowing when he was taking House’s pills
Ellen Degeneres: Before we go to the break I have to ask you this, you take so many pills on the show all the time, what are you really taking? Because you’re swallowing something constantly.
Hugh Laurie: I don’t know, I honestly don’t know. I think it’s something to stop me from complaining. They told me at the beginning it’s some sort of lactose or lactase… whatever the word is. Then one of the prop men said ‘Oh my God, you’re not actually swallowing those are you?’ and I said ‘Yes I have. I’ve swallowed about 400 in the last 3 months.’What the hell was it? [as the prop man] “Nothing! No they’re fine, probably fine. Have you noticed any rashes? or…” no, but I seem to be alright.
Ellen: You seem to be alright, but you’re swallowing a lot of things… and I was just curious…
Hugh: Yes, I am a swallower.
-The pills, I remember once asking the prop man “What is in these pills?” and he said “It’s basically chalk” and I said ” well, basically? Right, but probably Vicodin is basically chalk, I mean, I’m talking about, what are the active ingredients? “ahh… it’s basically chalk”… Basically chalk, everybody got to the bottom of that… Basically chalk. But maybe when I leave the show, and no longer taking 40 of these a week, I’ll start getting the jitters, and turn into some horrible cold turkey. And then I’ll know that they’ve actually been feeding me opiates all this time, putting it in my uhm..
